~Myths and folk tales from Finland with family legends~

Finland is a country of ten thousand lakes and an endless forests. It’s a country of Epic Kalevala and a land of heroe’s like Väinämöinen, Matti and Kullervo. Markus will bring stories from the Finnish woods to DISC!! The set of stories includes dreaming, more dreaming and some facts about reality.

AND there will be a special opening performance by the participants of our Beginner’s Course who will graduate in the very same day!!

Three storytellers, Torgrim Mellum Stene (NO), Markus Lukkonnen (FI) and Tom van Outryve (BE) are doing a showcase of their recently developed performance in a living room in Ekkergemplein in Ghent, Belgium. This is the pilot for the show they will be doing a tour with in Scandinavia in August this year.

Tarina, kertoja ja yleisö – Ammattina tarinankerronta Markus Luukkonen – Metropolia AMK Esittävä taide – Opinnäytetyö

“Tämä työ raapaisee aihetta ja tarkastelee sitä monesta eri suunnasta. Itselleni se herätti joukon kysymyksiä ja tulevaisuudessakin jatkan tarinankerronnan parissa työskentelyä, kokeiluja ja etsimistä. Mielelläni jatkan myös keskustelua aiheesta. Mitä se tarinankerronta oikein on?”

TIIVISTELMÄ

Tässä opinnäytetyössä käsitellään tarinankerrontaa ja sen erilaisia soveltavia muotoja. Keskiössä on tarinankertoja ja hänen roolinsa eri konteksteissa. Työ pyrkii tutkimaan tarinankerrontaa ammattina ja tarkastelee tarinankertojan työnkuvaa ja sen eri osa-alueita.

Opinnäytetyössä jaotellaan tarinankerronta eri osa-alueiksi: nuotio-, esittävä ja soveltava tarinankerronta. Näitä osa-alueita pohditaan kirjoittajan omien kokemusten ja kirjallisten lähteiden kautta. Kirjoittajan omista kokemuksista keskeisimpänä mukana on kolme eri lailla aiheeseen liittyvää projektia. Työssä tarkastellut projektit ovat musiikkia, tarinoita ja visuaalisia elementtejä yhdistelevä Erämaateatteri, Helsingissä järjestettävä Shaibalaiba! -tarinaklubi sekä Varsinais-Suomen taidetoimikunnan toteuttama Taide kotouttaa -hanke.

Työn alussa avataan lyhyesti tarinankerronnan historiaa ja sen määritelmää, minkä jälkeen työ erittelee tarinankerronan perusosien, tarinan, kertojan ja yleisön merkitystä. Loppuosassa työstä tarkastellaan tarinankertojan eri työalueita sekä pohditaan kertojan kontaktia itseensä, tarinaansa ja yleisöönsä. Alkuosa tarkastelee aihetta enemmän lähdekirjallisuuden kautta. Loppuosa tutkimuksesta painottuu kirjoittajan omaan kokemukseen.

A directionless young man rakes the ashes in the fireplace and dreams away his days (while his parents tear their hair out in frustration). But one day, his future comes calling…Story Jam favourite Sarah Liisa Wilkinson tells a coming-of-age tale from Norway, full of lust and love, adventures in strange lands, and big fat smelly hairy trolls, all found on the way to Soria Moria Castle.

FROM THE WOODS

Heroes of these stories travel in the middle of the sea, in the middle of the forest – and in the middle of the love. The set of stories is a mix of folktales from Finland and it includes dreaming, more dreaming and some facts about reality. Markus Luukkonen is a storyteller from Finland. He tells stories in clubs, theatres and festivals. He is a founder of Finnish storytelling association Samova Storytelling.

PLUS the third instalment in our serial THE SLY THIEF OF VALENCIENNES. Joe Fraser takes us to the half-way point and things are really hotting up for our scheming trickster.

FEST Conference 2015

The annual Federation for European Storytelling Conference is the biggest meeting of its kind, a unique and diverse gathering of storytelling professionals from all over Europe and beyond. Attended by Representatives of National and Regional Storytelling Groups, Storytelling Trainers, Festival Organisers, Promoters, Education Specialists, Storytelling Professionals and Funding Experts, this is the European storytelling networking opportunity.

The conference will take place from 19th till 22th July 2015 in Kea Island, Greece.

Elias Lönnrotin Kalevalan ensimmäinen painos ilmestyi vuonna 1835. Tänä vuonna siitä tulee kuluneeksi 180 vuotta. Tarinankertojana kerron monenlaisia tarinoita. Toisinaan höpötän omiani, mutta työssäni ovat aina kulkeneet mukana kansantarinat ja vanhat myytit. Olen kiitollinen runoja laulaneille esi-isillemme, Lönrotin Eliakselle ja vanhoille mestareille. Tässä päivässä, suomalaisena tarinankertojana haluan jotenkin vastata Väinämöisen ja Lönrotin kutsuun, siis…

“Lyökäämme käsi kätehen, sormet sormien lomahan, lauloaksemme hyviä, parahia pannaksemme!”

Esitys on osa Kalevalan juhlavuoden prosessiani. Se etsii muotoaan, niinkuin minäkin etsin lähempää yhteyttä esi-isiimme, Väinämöiseen ja vanhoihin mestareihin.
